Room of the week – bold coloured living room
This weeks Room of the Week is a living room with an explosion of bold colour. From the House to Home galleries this living room combines a strong use of colour, simple furniture and vivid patterns that are layered to create the finished style.
The colour scheme for this room uses a dominance of one colour, a red wine shade, and accents of grey on the walls and in the rug have been added to complement it. The interior provides a riot of colour but it is also a calming room perfectly for relaxation.
Retro styled fabric is very popular at the moment and Sanderson have recently relaunched Mobiles, shown below, which was originally launched in the 50′s. The fabric is printed as an exact copy of the original version that was printed on rayon, at the time it was launched this was a new fabric that offered an affordable choice to younger customers. 50 years later the fabric is printed in 5 colours and also available as a wallpaper.
With so much colour in the room the furniture style has been kept simple to achieve the calm look. The Schelly chair from BoConcept would work well in this room, its simple style fits well into any interior and it is often used to compliment a more formal sofa.
The coffee table and desk have also been selected in a simple style. Young and Norgate is a furniture manufacturer based on the south coast of Devon making furniture in limited numbers. Their pieces are pared down in style but lack nothing in perfect craftsmanship. The Animate writing desk shown below has beautiful detail on the side showing the internal mechanics of the desk.
Adding a rug in a contrasting colour will add another layer to your interiors scheme. The grey Organic Wave rug shown below, from Marks and Spencer, also contains texture but without using another colour. This allows it to add to an interior without fighting with the other elements.
