Room of the Week – purple bedroom
This weeks Room of the Week is a colour toned bedroom. From the House to Home galleries this room combines a palette of different purples to create a very cosy bedroom – perfect for the winter months.
Creating a monochromatic scheme for a room in your home is very easy to do and can create fabulous results. From your chosen colour family you combine different tints, tones and shades to achieve the desired look. If you can also include different textures it will ensure the scheme includes many levels of interest without just becoming a mass of colour. The room here has extended the colour scheme to include light greys which add balance to the scheme.
This room also features an eclectic furnishing style due to the many different furniture and accessories style. An antique drawer unit is combined with a bedside table from Ikea. The mirror glass pendants are complemented by a plain modern rug providing a block of colour. Mixing different styles will often create a more lived in look that has a broader appeal.
Hanging two pendant lights to the side of the bed is a great way to bring light to a bedroom, and will give an upmarket appearance to the room. It also helps to create beautiful pools of light. These simple glass pendants from BHS would add a simple elegance to any bedroom.
Using a floral pattern as just a splash of design allows you to add colour and warmth to a room without making it too feminine. This is often a problem in master bedroom projects we work on, the wife wants florals – the husband says no. This elegant bed linen from Debenhams allows you to add some vivid colour and a hint of romance through the poppies – but would appeal to both a wife and a husband!
