Decorex preview … 26th-29th September
In just over two weeks time the great and the good of the interior design world will descend on The Royal Hospital in Chelsea for Decorex. The show has been running for over 30 years and for many is the highlight of all the design shows throughout the year. Decorex is firmly focussed on interior design with a strong showing for the residential and hotel markets, and this year includes over 300 exhibitors, a strong seminar programme, numerous installations and everything else required to make a good show.
The show is now part of the larger London Design Festival and although it competes with the more contemporary 100% Design, it still remains a firm favourite with interior designers. The show has expanded the range of exhibitors over the last few years from the more traditional exhibitors and is once again firmly on my list of essential shows to attend.
Putting the nice things aside the show is ultimately all about the products. This year Aram, one of London’s best contemporary furniture dealers, will be showing at Decorex for the first time and will add to the contemporary products on display. Aram has been at the forefront of supplying contemporary furniture for over 40 years, their Covent Garden store has always been a destination store of mine when specifying furniture and they will be a great addition to Decorex.
CTO Lighting will be another essential stand to visit. CTO design, manufacture and supply a large range of both stock and custom made lighting and their lighting fittings can often be found in the most exquisite interiors. Their client list includes The Dorchester, Harrods, British Airways and Gordon Ramsey Restaurants.
Ebony and Co manufacturer and supply some of the world’s most beautiful wooden floors. The quality is second to none with the company selecting their woods from old growth timbers, their woods are sourced from rapidly renewable forests and are treated to ensure no problems post installation. Uniquely they are also suitable for use with underfloor heating.
Fromental won the best stand in Decorex 2009 so the expectations for this year will be very high. They produce a wide variety of wallpapers and fabrics to add a luxury element to any interior.
A strong seminar programme has always featured at Decorex and for 2010 it includes over 20 seminars, presentations and panel sessions. On the first morning of the show Nina Campbell will be conducting a press briefing as the show opens, and she will also present a seminar on Wednesday 29th on the Diverse Life of an Interior Designer. Martyn Lawrence-Bullard who was named as Andrew Martin International Interior Design of the Year 2010 and has designed interiors for Elton John, Cher and Sharon Osborne will talk about his experiences Designing for the Stars. Another essential seminar will be Design Trends 2011/12 presented by the trend forecasters Scarlet Opus.
If you are in need of refreshment after looking at products and attending seminars the Whister Leather Champagne Bar will be just the place for you. Whister Leather is launching a new range of luxurious high end leathers at Decorex and you will be able to explore their products while drinking Champagne! Another fun place to refresh will be the Harlequin Tabletop Tea Party where ‘you’re invited to go underground into the warren, play croquet like never before and be part of a very special tea party’. This year the ladies and gents bathrooms have even had the design wand waved over them by Louise Brody who will create a bespoke entrance using products from her wallpaper and fabric ranges, the fabrics will be launched exclusively at Decorex 2010.
The show opens on 26 September and lasts for 4 days. Although the show is aimed squarely at the trade visitor the afternoon of Tuesday 28th September is open to all visitors, register online now if you want to visit!
