Brand review: Mini Moderns
Mini Moderns was set up in 2004 by Mark Hampshire and Keith Stephenson to provide design conscious families with stylish homewares and wallpaper. Their first collection The Family Album was aimed at kids and those of us who don’t want to grow up, and since then the number of collections and the product range has steadily grown.
The Town cushion shown above is a design from The Family Album range and would look equally at home in a teenage bedroom or in a design studio, the graphics are timeless and appeal to everyone. The cushion is based on the Do You Live in a Town wallpaper and features many different types of houses including semis, terraces, high-rise flats and seventies style homes. Following one of the company’s main principles all the wallpaper is printed in the UK on paper from sustained forests.
Launched earlier this year Festival, shown above, is a design that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain. The design is now available on wallpaper, rugs, cushions and bags with a range of mix and match porcelain due to be available soon. Shown in the design are highlights of the 1951 Festival including the iconic Skylon, and the Royal Festival Hall. The design is available in 3 colourways each with a neutral base and complementary bright colours, I particularly like the Bunting Blue & Red version, very patriotic!
A personal favourite of mine is the Whitby range. Inspired by the holidays Mark and Keith had spent as kids on the coastline of North Yorkshire it features two fishing boats circled by hungry seagulls. Shown above on a cushion, and below on wallpaper it personally reminds me of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull, a wonderful book I have read again and again. The design is available in the bold colours shown but also in a more subtle Stone colour if you want to gently add interest to your interior.
Mini Moderns is definitely a brand to watch as they continue to take inspiration from everyday life and create new collections. Visit their Shoppe to start your own collection of Mini Moderns, I’m currently thinking about buying some of their fabulous mugs for our office!
