Room of the Week – Eastern style bathroom

August 24, 2011

This weeks Room of the Week is a bathroom designed in a simple Eastern style.  The room from the House to Home galleries is designed to provide a zen like simplicity to the bathroom.

This room has had the layout and fittings carefully designed to ensure a calm environment is created.  A large niche above the bath creates a good area for the storage of bathroom products and also decorative accessories.  When you are planning a niche remember to ensure it is large enough for the products you use – if it won’t take your favourite shampoo it will become annoying!

Using a wooden surround on your bath will add a layer of warmth to a room that can often seem harsh due to the tiles and sanitary ware.  Duravit manufacture a wooden surround for many of their baths, the Happy D bath is shown below and provides a modern version to the standalone claw foot baths that are popular in period properties.  The wooden surround is fully protected against the bathroom environment and will last for many years.

A waterfall bath filler makes a nice feature to a bathroom if you are able to hide all the pipework and make it a statement on the wall.  The Notion range from Vado includes the filler below, it is very sleek in design and embraces the calm simple look .  If you are fitting this with a standalone bath do remember to ensure the projection of the spout ensures the water falls into the bath!

American style shutters are a good option in a bathroom if you want some privacy but still want to allow light into the room and not restrict the view out of the window.  Vinyl shutters are now available that are suitable for use in a bathroom and other high humidity environments.  American Shutters are a good provider of vinyl shutters, the blind below comes in a range of ten colours with four different louvre styles

By carefully considering the design, layout and fittings of your own bathroom you can easily create a room that is calm and relaxing.  Remember to include adequate storage to ensure the room doesn’t become cluttered, and choosing fittings that are simple will enhance the style.
