Room of the Week – home office

November 16, 2011

This weeks Room of the Week, from the House to Home gallery, is a home office with a feature wallpaper. With a well designed workspace, it demonstrates the role that good design should play in all aspects of our life.

Many people work at home today and for productivity it is helpful to define the area where you intend to work. Whether this area is a dedicated room or a grabbed spare corner try to remember that you should want to spend time at your desk. By spending some time carefully choosing the furniture and fittings you will ensure this is the case.

Wallpaper can help you define the area where you will work. The Marie Claire wallpaper from Wallpaper Direct would create a lovely feature wall. It is available in a range of colourways and features a soft touch that can help to soften a work space.

A good quality desk is very important when creating a home office area. The desk does not have to be purely functional, choose a desk that will also add a design element. The Senna desk from Habitat is manufactured from solid oak and oak veneers. The central lid lifts up to include useful storage inside the desk.

Another important, if not the most important, element of the office is the chair. If you want to choose a classic chair, the Eames Aluminium Group manufactured by Vitra would be a good choice. Designed in 1958 the range is one of the most famous designed by Charles & Ray Eames.

If you carefully chose the fittings for your home office you should be easily able to create a place you want to spend time in. The elements above, and additional storage, will ensure you do this.
