Room of the Week – luxurious bedroom

December 7, 2011

This weeks Room of the Week is a richly coloured bedroom.  From the House to Home galleries the heavy use of purple tones has given the room a very luxurious feel.

The use of a tonal colour scheme can often create a very calming space due to the lack of contrasting or competing colours. The room here uses a solely purple palette apart from a couple of splashes of gold. Tonal colour schemes don’t have to be boring though – just make sure you add some interest by using different textures and finishes. This room has texture in the rug and the bed linen has different finishes i.e. velvet and silks.

Rather than using bedside lamps it creates a very different look if you can hang pendants. The Romeo Babe Soft pendant from Flos would be a good choice to use by a bed. The fitting is small enough to not encroach on the space around the bed but still provides a good light source. The Romeo Babe pendant is also available with a hard shade, go for the bright red one if you are feeling daring.

To add a bespoke touch to a bedroom you can easily have a headboard made to your own design. I recently used Headboards & Interiors for a project to make an oversized headboard for a client. For a king size bed the headboard shown starts at around £300 so they are very affordable.

To add some gold into your interior, look at the Mosaic range of vinyl wallpapers from Zoffany. The colours in the range are inspired by minerals and crystals and they would also add texture into a room. This wallpaper would look fabulous if lit by candlelight.

Creating a luxurious bedroom doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Plan your furnishing carefully and ensure everything you choose works well together. Remember this is a space for rest and relaxation – always ensure the decor reflects this!

It depends on the look you are after – for a luxe look go with very similar tones. Remember though that this wallpaper gives a very special effect so try not to detract too much from it.

Hi, I have been looking for a quilted throw much like the purple one with (velvet edging) on the Purple tonal bedroom seen above, would you be able to point me in the right direction on where to look. The bedroom i am decorating has the same use of colour but I am struggling to find the luxury sumptuous accessories.
I thank you for any help you can give me.
