A summer trip of inspiration

August 24, 2012

As a designer I am constantly looking for new sources of inspiration. These can come from many wide and varied sources and the trick is to always keep your eyes open.

On a recent holiday in Spain I was inspired by the natural beauty of the landscape. North of Barcelona there are fields and fields of sunflowers that are grown for their oil. The bursts of yellow confirmed to me how good splashes of colour can be in an interior. In the local forests the variety of greens in the trees was amazing, the diversity of colour proves that nature has a palette that outshines any colour chart.

The vivid purple of the Bougainvillea growing in the grounds of our villa was stunning. It was such a great pop of colour against the natural stone of the 300 year old Spanish finca we stayed in. We also discovered the most amazing  oversized Aloe vera plants, the blue green is a colour I want to replicate in a design scheme soon.

As you travel and take your holidays make sure you explore the landscape and find your own inspiration. Bring some colour home from your trip and it will help keep your memories alive.

I think holidays are great for inspiring us designers – different light, a rested brain and a whole new environment really helps with creativity. Love the photos!
