Tent 20-23 September

September 6, 2012

Returning to the wonderful Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane again this year Tent will open 2 weeks today. Now in its 6th year the show features over 200 international exhibitors covering every aspect of interior products.

Tent is always a great place to make new discoveries. It’s location in the East of London helps to give it the reputation for being the most edgy of all the shows during London Design Festival.

Two of the exhibitors I am looking forward to seeing who I already know are Andy Murray and Sebastian Cox. Andy Murray is a furniture designer based in Glasgow. His Sea Defence range was launched two years ago at the LDF, the side table is a favourite of mine. Sebastian Cox is another furniture designer and maker who based in Lincolnshire. Using coppiced hazel for his products his products are both innovative and sustainable – the ‘Rod’ desk lamp below is fantastic.

Among the exhibitors I don’t know, but am looking forward to discovering, are Abigail Edwards and Fay McCaul. Abigail Edwards has recently designed her first hand drawn wallpaper range. One design, Briar Owl, is inspired by the story of Sleeping Beauty and the owls nestled among the briars guarding the princess. In the silver on grey colourway it is a stunning wallpaper. Fay McCaul works to mix modern materials to produce interior accessories. The Illumine collection of fabrics is created mixing the materials and the effect is fantastic.

Anyone attending Tent this year has the opportunity to win one of ten customised chairs. Anthony Hartley will use plywood boards signed by visitors to the show to create ten unique chairs.

While visiting Tent you can also visit Superbrands which shares the same exhibition venue. This show is exclusively for established brands and includes some of the superstars of the global design scene. I’m looking forward to seeing Surface View at Superbrands.

When you are planning your London Design Festival make sure you include a trip to the East of London to Tent and Superbrands, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
