Brompton Design District 14-23 September

September 13, 2012

In this weeks preview of a London Design Festival event we are featuring the Brompton Design District. Now in its fourth year the event includes many of the fabulous design shops and attractions in the area.

The fun starts tomorrow, so if you need an early fix from the Design Festival this is the place to go. Located close to the Victoria and Albert Museum the design district brings together the many design shops, museums, galleries and on or around London’s Brompton Road.

At The Conran Shop will be a fantastic exhibition showcasing works by 45 designers who have been inspired by the iconic red pillar box. Designers involved include Manolo Blahnik, Jasper Morrison and Thomas Heatherwick. Almost as exciting for me is the Soda Stream bar that will be in the shop every day from 1pm! The Conran Shop will be the first place to sell the newly designed Source machine designed by Yves Behar.

If you like pottery you should head to Bamford where 1882 Ltd is launching 2 new collections. Max Lamb will be showing a range of crockery, and when you visit make sure you enter the competition to win one of 5 sets of his crockery. Also at Bamford Emily Johnson will launch a new range of plates and Suzanne Trocmé shows her first collection of pottery.

Most of the design showrooms in the area will be involved. I’m looking forward to heading to Skandium to see the new ranges they will be adding to their own collection. I’ll also be heading to Jonathan Adler where they will be offering canapés throughout the Festival – and the chance to win a £1,000 shopping spree. If you are into lighting head to Ralph Lauren which is launching a new range this autumn.

Providing one of the options for nourishment in the Brompton Design District is the pop up cafe Kopiaste which will be located on Cromwell Place. If you fancy learning to make bread and combining it with design head to their workshop held every afternoon at 2pm, more details here.

The Brompton Design District is always a fun way to start the London Design Festival. On 22 September they hold the highlight, a special Design Day with multiple events in the district. Want to discuss your ideas in B&B Italia over a glass of Prosecco? Or maybe have a behind the scenes tour of Nigel Coates collection Case Reale? At Smallbone there will be a design talk about Kelly Hoppen’s new kitchen range.

The full schedule is available online to allow you to plan your visit – what do you want to see?
