Room of the Week – colourful living room

October 31, 2012

This weeks Room of the Week is a colourful living room. From the House to Home galleries this room combines bright colours with patterns to create a fun living space.

The successful use of colour and pattern can often be hard to achieve if you want to create a more adventurous eclectic colourful style. Everything doesn’t have to ‘match’ in a room (the matched look is actually best avoided) but you need some cohesion to ensure the look works. The decoration of this room is successful as the colour palette and the limited use of pattern brings all the various elements together.

The Conran Aspen chair featured here is a great product for any living room. From the Content by Conran range the furniture is available as a large chair as shown, and also as a  2 or 3 seater sofa. It is available in a wide variety of fabrics – we recently ordered it for a client in a pinstripe grey felt.

Adding some pattern into your interior will add another layer of interest, it is the addition of layers that helps to create the final look. The Rabanna range of wallpaper from Osborne & Little is new to their collection and includes a fantastic houndstooth pattern. This wallpaper is available in 5 colours and features a metallic sheen to give the houndstooth pattern an update look.

If you have strong colours on your walls it is a good idea to choose a muted colour for the floor – however you don’t have to go plain and boring! The Palazzo rug by Suzanne Sharp for The Rug Company has beautiful subtle colouring that would work well with bold coloured furniture.
