Room of the Week

May 22, 2013

This weeks Room of the Week is a bright yellow dining room. From the House to Home galleries the brightness of this room will ensure dinner is always a colourful affair.  With the forthcoming bank holiday weekend hopefully it can also inspire the weather to improve for the long weekend!

Dining room

Decorating with pops of colour is very on trend at the moment and is a great look if you get it right. This dining room has mixed a range of yellow tones with a neutral base. The dark wood of the table is also a strong focal point around which to place complementing products.

When choosing a contemporary wooden dining table simple styling is usually better. Try to let the beauty of the wood stand out without unnecessary details. From Chest of Drawers the Saga dining table is a well styled and crafted product. Available in 2 lengths it would create a beautiful anchor piece for any dining room.

Adding colour through upholstery on dining chairs is often a subtle way to create a focal point which can easily be changed when you tire of the colour. If you are feeling braver however and want a full on colour fix either of these chairs would be a good choice to work with a walnut table.

The Kartell Masters chair is designed by Philippe Starck and is his interpretation of 3 well-known contemporary chairs. Available in six colours the mustard yellow is certainly bright, is a designer product but is also surprisingly affordable . Another dining chair choice would be the Eames DSR chair available from Vitra. It is also called the Eiffel chair – and is one of the chair styles that inspired the Kartell Masters chair. Available in many colours this design has stood the test of time – it was designed over 60 years ago. Both of these chairs would combine different materials with the walnut to create a unique look.

Has this inspired you to think outside the box when furnishing your dining room? Everything doesn’t have to match, just coordinate well and the finished look will have much more interest than a regular dining room table and chairs set.

I swear this will be the “it” color next year….I’m seeing way too much of it.
