Room of the Week

June 5, 2013

This weeks Room of the Week is a vivid blue bedroom. From the House to Home galleries the room uses very strong shades of blue to create a dramatic room. Although not for the timid this room demonstrates the amazing look created if you are willing to use bold colours and go full on with your decorating scheme.

This room works so well as the layers of blue have been applied using different tones and also different textures. If you are tempted to choose a scheme like this you need to introduce interest this way. Just grabbing everything the same colour tone will not produce the same style. Think about the different materials too, blue glass is featured on the side table here to contrast with the wallpaper and the blue table top.

Little Greene have a good range of blue paints that will help you to achieve a style like this. I often specify that the woodwork is painted the same colour as the walls to give a complete ‘together look’. The architectural details of  a room then become less obvious but help to provide another layer of decoration to the finished scheme. From the Little Green range I particularly like Deep Space and Hicks Blue.

For something different from a regular bedside light consider installing pendant lighting either side of your bed. The work would require a qualified electrician, but the finished installation raises the style level of the bedroom. Lee Broom makes gorgeous cut crystal bulbs which would be a superb choice to give your bedroom the wow factor. The light diffraction is amazing and the fittings are beautiful – nowhere is it more important to have lovely fittings then in your private bedroom space.
