Room of the Week
After featuring Nordic House on Monday we are continuing the Nordic theme with this weeks Room of the Week. With summer menus, and hopefully outdoor dining on the way, now is a great time to freshen up your own dining room and adopt a summery theme.
Nordic style is often represented by simplicity and this dining room demonstrates this style so well – the decoration scheme uses a very calm colour that provides a base for addition of the colours of nature. Choosing a neutral decorating scheme like this allows you to very easily change the room style by adjusting the accessories. You can choose warm red berry colours at Christmas and then move to lighter summery colours during the warmer months.
A white linen tablecloth is my favourite way to start to any table decoration. The blanket of crisp white acts as a perfect backdrop to any other decoration you want to add. From Nordic House these gingham placemats are a great start to help you create a Nordic themed room. If you choose the natural colour placemats the dark bamboo range of table accessories would work really well, I love the simplicity of the bread basket.
Glassware is a very simple way to add colour to your dining table. It is also a very cheap way to keep the look of your table fresh, glasses really don’t cost much so you can have a good selection. To continue the blue Nordic theme Zara Home has a great range of blue glasses available and for less than £5 each they are a great summer buy.
Once you’ve got the table cloth, the placemats and the glassware organised you just need to add some white plates and then pop a few fresh blooms from your garden and you are all set to enjoy dinner with friends. Let me know below how you decorate your table this summer or tweet me some pictures to my twitter account @andrewdunning
This room was originally featured in the extensive galleries of House to Home. Take a look over at their website for room inspiration, and be sure to check back here every week to find which one of the rooms has been showcased.
