Let Ikea make your curtains

June 14, 2013

After completing a renovating building project the curtains and cushions will complete your look and make your house feel like a home. However on the final stage of many projects the budget is often stretched and these are the things where you often need some keenly priced options. Made to measure curtains are often very expensive, and ready made curtains rarely fit!

The good news is that Ikea are currently trialling a curtain making service in four of their UK stores and it is great value. I visited their Wembley store yesterday to take a look at the service.

Obviously you can only use it when you purchase Ikea fabrics in the store but they have such a great selection that there is bound to be something you’ll like. From colourful prints to plains, stripes to ginghams, darks to brights it’s all there, and the most expensive I could find was only £8 a metre!

After buying your fabric and deciding which type of heading and lining you want, you pay a service charge for Ikea to make them and the curtains are then delivered to your home address within 21 days. For a pair of lined eyelet curtains with a 166 – 250cm drop the service charge is £75. So choose a mid range fabric and your made to measure curtains in this size would cost you around £125 – a bargain! The service is currently on trial in Wembley, Birmingham, Warrington and Glasgow. I’ll be heading back to Wembley soon to place our first order and try the service.
