Room of the Week

June 19, 2013

This week we are going into the kitchen for our Room of the Week. This industrial style kitchen features a multitude of different textures combined to create a beautiful kitchen.

Industrial Kitchen

In a very on trend palette of soft greys the many layers in different textures help to ensure the kitchen doesn’t look flat and uninteresting. If you want to decorate your own home with a monotone  palette including many textures is the best way to add interest.

Choosing a worktop for your kitchen is always a tough choice. Laminates, granites, marble, solid surface – the list goes on. Our featured kitchen has a concrete worktop from Concreation. An unusual choice, concrete is however a very durable surface and every one is beautifully unique – your supplier will ensure you get a one-off worktop. Another manufacturer is Mortise Concrete, this worktop in a Balham cafe demonstrates the wonderfully organic nature of concrete.

When decorating your own home it often pays huge dividends not to take the safe choice. A regular worktop, maybe Corian, would have looked nice – but the concrete finish really lifts this room. The warm look of the polished concrete suits this room so well, working with the industrial windows and the exposed brick walls.

This weeks Room of the Week was originally featured in the extensive galleries of House to Home. Take a look over at their website for room inspiration, and be sure to check back here every week to find which one of the rooms has been showcased.

This is an interesting choice of worktop! It really works well in that kitchen. Goes to show that there is a great variety apart from granite and quartz worktops.
