Room of the Week

June 27, 2013

I’m back in the office today after a few days enjoying life in northern Spain. I’ve come back refreshed by the nature of the countryside and the beauty of beach, it’s amazing where you find inspiration. It’s essential you keep your eyes open wherever you travel – and make sure you try to bring memories home, they really help to create a personal interior.

The simple styling of this room reminds me of the finca we stayed in while near Figueres in northern Spain. Many of the fincas in Spain are over 300 years old and are often large country houses that would have been working farms. The entrance hallways are often large and expansive, but the simple decoration style shown here often works best to create a warm welcome to your visitors.

Adding a stencil to your home can add a contemporary decoration touch that can easily be refreshed when you want to change the look. I recently discovered The Stencil Library for a project on a children’s bedroom where we are using the Teddy and Balloons range. Their full range is extensive and if you want to include a touch of nature they have a large collection of stencils that would work very well.

This room was originally featured in the extensive galleries of House to Home, the home is based in Rioja. Spain. Take a look over at their website for room inspiration, and be sure to check back here every week to find which one of the rooms has been showcased.
