Room of the Week

November 6, 2013

This week as we head into the cooler months we have chosen a dramatic dark coloured living room as our Room of the Week. Embracing dark walls and bright coloured furniture,  this is a perfect room to hibernate in over the winter months.

Decorating with a  darker palette is often intimidating to people, as your natural instinct is often to keep the colours light and neutral, especially if your room has a lack of natural light,. This darker style can however produce great results and lead to a much more atmospheric interior than just playing it safe.

The darker colours of many paint manufacturers have become very popular in the last few years. Farrow and Ball recently introduced Mole’s Breath and Stiffkey Blue to their range. These dark colours are perfect choices for any interior and create a very on trend look. If you aren’t brave enough to use throughout a room consider using them on one wall, or to a small contained area, maybe fireplace alcoves.

Winter is the time when blankets and throws in your home become more functional and less decorative! However warm you keep your home it is always lovely to have a pile of throws to handle for those extra cold evenings. They are also a great way to add splashes of complementary colour to an interior. I love the Twist A Twill blanket from Hus and Hem which is available in a range of fun colours. Made from pure merino wool they are perfect

This room was originally featured in the extensive galleries of House to Home. Take a look over at their website for room inspiration, and be sure to check back here every week to find which one of the rooms has been showcased.
