4 products for 4 rooms
I’m running a series of blog posts each covering product recommendations. Continuing our Nordic theme of this week I am featuring Norwegian products and designers today. Each post in this series features 4 products for 4 different rooms.
In a country where clean and simple design is key this Aksel armchair is a perfect champion of the style. Manufactured in solid wood and in a variety of colours this dark version would look perfect in the on trend grey focused interiors that are very popular now. The chair could be dressed with a colourful cushion or left plain to enjoy you to the beauty of the natural materials.
Wik & Walsøe was formed near ten years ago by two Norwegian women who left their regular jobs to open a design studio. Their unique porcelain is instantly recognisable as Scandinavian due to its simple unfussy design. The Alveskog range features abstract woodland scenes that take me right back to the natural beauty of Norway.
From Northern Lighting the “Bake Me a Cake” light fitting would be perfect for mood lighting in a kitchen. Manufactured in oak wood and smoked tinted glass this fitting is actually made by inmates at a prison near Bergen in Norway. The name is inspired by the tale of a mother baking a cake for her son in prison which includes a file inside it! Such a clever simple design, I’d love one of these in my kitchen.
Drawing on the strong design ethic of Scandinavia, Fjordfiesta was launched in 2001 by architect Paul Lunder. The Alto desk was added to their product range in 2013 and clearly embraced the design ethics of the region. It is available in either a natural or black stained oak.
