Project Complete: Southfields SW18

May 27, 2014

Today we are featuring a project we completed in Southfields recently to update a kitchen for a client who’s bathroom we had previous renovated. Our clients had inherited the kitchen when they bought the house and wanted to update the style of the kitchen and update the appliances.

The first stage of this project was to open up the view as you entered the kitchen from the hallway by installing a large picture window. To maximise the light this window is an irregular L shape which borders the new peninsular island. The floor to ceiling window allows the outside patio to visually come into the kitchen and increases the perceived space. Previously a sink was located in front of this window as is traditional in many homes which blocked the outside view.

A white handleless kitchen cabinet was chosen for this project to keep the style of the room very modern and contemporary. These cabinets were teamed with a large format high gloss porcelain floor tile to maximise the light in the new kitchen. In the new layout we created a large island that serves as both the preparation area and also a new casual dining area. This island is fitted with pop up power sockets for any appliances required and a smart recycling and waste solution. The dishwasher is also located here to allow for a speedy clean up post preparation.

We used an existing, much loved, range cooker which now stands out as a feature of the new kitchen against the white units. The splashback mirrors the grey floor tiles and is custom made in coloured glass. For the worktops we chose a white Corian to finish the sleek contemporary style – and also provide a very durable surface that will stay looking as good as the day it was installed for many years.

The majority of the work was done on this kitchen while our client was away on a 3 week holiday so they returned home to a brand new kitchen. Having seen the client recently she said “I’m in love with it, that’s where I spend most of my time now”! Another great kitchen transformation completed – it’s always rewarding to see our clients loving their homes when we leave.
